Paddy Kenny - 7
Paddy was very sharp off his line today which saved us a few times. He was trying to get the ball away early which is good ( if successful ) but his distribution was poor at times, leaving us on the back foot, needing to defend when we should of been on the counter-attack. Although he wasn't really tested, anytime he came under any pressure his safe hands never let him down.
Lee Peltier - 7
He was very solid at the back but he could have gotten forward a little more. Once again he was a player who wasn't put under a great deal of pressure and any he was put under he was more than capable of dealing with it.
Tom Lees - 7
Leesy broke play up extremely well today and he was constantly running out of our defence with the ball at his feet. On a few occasions he put the team under pressure subject to his loose marking but we came out lucky. There was times were he was forced to help out Lee Peltier due to Paul Green not being there. Overall Tom did what is expected from a centre-half of his calibre.
Jason Pearce - 8
Jason was outstanding today, he made lots of last-ditch challenges preventing Leicester from getting through on goal. He got up well in our first chance of the game but he just couldn't keep his effort down. He acted as cover for Stephen Warnock brilliantly enabling the full-back to get forward and support the attack. Hopefully there's many more performances replicating today from the 25 year old.
Stephen Warnock - 6
Warnock blocked a lot of crossing opportunities for Leicester but he was dragged out of position far too easily, maybe because he has to take the corners then run the whole pitch to get back. In saying that most of his corners were very poor, going straight into Schmeichel's hands and his passing at times also let him down.
Paul Green - 6
This was not one of Greeny's better days but it was by no means his worst. He did a lot of running but when in possession of the ball he repeatedly gave it away but to be fair he tried his utmost best to regain it. He made some very good runs at times but our knack of playing down the left seen him getting less of the ball.
Rodolph Austin - 9 ( MOTM )
What a beast of a captain? Rudy was amazing today, what a brilliant return from him. He won a serious amount of defensive headers and he was the master at breaking play up and regaining possession of the ball. He was constantly drawing fouls from the opponents, it's just a pity we didn't put away one of our set-pieces. A Jamaican captain, sounds good, 'eh?
Luke Murphy - 7
A very steady performance from the 1 million man. He had an excellent first half but drifted out of the game in the second. His passing was very good and he was an outlet in attack breaking from the centre. I'm really looking forward to seeing more from Luke this season, so far he has impressed me.
Ross McCormack - 7
Ross deserves an endeavour today as he was constantly trying to make something happen but it just wasn't working for him. His ball-control and touch was first class today, if only he had that bit of pace. He was dropping in deep to get possession and he tried his best to bring other players into the game. He was gradually getting frustrated with his teammates due to their failure in getting the ball to his feet, especially Warnock!
Noel Hunt - 5
Hunty was very poor today, he was forever being caught offside and he struggled to get the ball at all. To be fair, he worked his socks off but it just didnt happen for him today. I'm sure Hunt will get better as the season pans out.
Luke Varney - 6
Luke did okay today but he was nothing special. In his favour he had none support whatsoever! He continuously won flick-on's but no-one was following in and Hunt was stuck on the right-wing. When he did get a run at the defence he didn't look threatening and the Leicester defenders dealt with him with ease.
Subs:
Dominic Poleon - 6.5
He certainly livened our attack up with his pace and trickery but there were times when he chose the wrong option. He got into the areas where the damage can be done and he's gonna be a major asset to us this season in my opinion.
Matt Smith - 6
He didn't get much of the ball but he gave us an advantage at the end of the game with his aerial abilities, winning a fair amount of headers in relation to the amount of time he was on the field. He was very, very unlucky with his chance at the end, almost topping off brilliant work from Poleon but it devastatingly had to go just inches wide.
Michael Tonge - ?
Didn't get much of the ball during his short appearance, therefore I didn't feel he could be evaluated.
