Mike
Grella has earned himself a contract with MLS side New York Red Bulls through a
successful trial and he expressed his delight with the new deal.
“There couldn’t be a better place than New York. I couldn’t be
more excited about it.
“There were some clubs in MLS and always options to go back to
Europe but I got married a year and a half ago and have a three-month-old baby
boy right now so we knew where we wanted to be.”
He played for a number of years
in England and you may remember his short spell here during our League One
days.
Grella arrived at Leeds in
January 2009. Showing a good account for himself in a couple of trials for the
club he earned himself a contract. He never really became a first team regular
here but I always had a liking to him, he was a handy player to have at that
level.
In total the American made 40 appearances
and scored 5 goals for the whites. Due to his lack of match fitness and
experience he was loaned out to Carlisle United and Swindon Town. On August
2011, Grella left Leeds for Brentford.
