Dominic Alfred Poleon...

Reminisce the time when this kid scored his first senior goal - against Nottingham Forest. The goal proved to be the winner. Remember the Becchio tussle? The loose ball? The determination on his face? Bang. It went into the bottom corner.

Ever since then Poleon has had two stints on loan at other clubs - Bury and Sheffield United. Loaning Poleon out back then seemed rather strange to me. I felt - at the time- he could contribute to the team whilst still learning the ropes of professional football. But eh, Warnock knows what he's talking about. At the end of the day, remember he got world-beater Steve Morison in on an astronomical swap deal for Becchio. Wizardry wouldn't be in it, I know. It's just a pity old Steve has to be giving all his class to Millwall.

Now under the manager of Brian McDermott, Poleon looks to have a bright future with Leeds. The gaffer has been quick to acknowledge Poleon's abilities saying that he has a bagful of potential.

It is perceptible that the young player needs games in order to live up to that kind of expectancy - be it out on loan or in the first team. He's finding it hard to maintain a place in the team at the moment with McCormack banging in the goals with Matt Smith and Dexter Blackstock also playing well up top.

When, at the start of the season, Poleon was given his chance he didn't let himself down. He worked his socks off for the team and challenged opposition defenders - what much of our team can't do. However, he lacks any real prolificacy, final product if you like. You could describe him as 'a dog chasing it's own tail'. He's the kind of player that could beat three/four men then turn around with a poor cross or a poor pass. It's the way most talented young players seem to be like in this day and age. The question is, how do we get rid of it?

Loaning Poleon out must be knocking on the manager's head especially with him already having six more-developed strikers at the club.

Personally I would be supportive of a loan opportunity for Poleon as long as he went to a productive club and got plenty of games.

He's got raw talent and I just hope that someday he will be scoring goals for Leeds at the highest level. Champions League maybe? That may be a dream but one day we will be the best, for we are the champions, the champions of Europe.
